Foreword – Robert Alcock

As I look out of the office window and out onto the green fields of Ireland, the movements within the industry that have occurred in the last few years become apparent.

When we started the project there was one Service provider in Ireland, Two mobile operators, no broadband and very little infrastructure that could be called state of the art.

Within the time frame of the project de-regulation has hit the market, new services abound, phone prices have been slashed and the broadband revolution has liberated the Emerald Isle - a success you may feel for the industry.

As we see the green shoots of recovery through the industry; new technology start ups, declared vendor profits, global take-up of broadband, we can even see a slight smile on some Chief Financial Officers’ faces.

A word, which sums up the industry fight back, is partnership: Companies partnering to bring about new technology, to help deploy systems and to deliver communications to the entire global population. We are delighted to support WITSA and the WCIT 2004 and to be part of this collaborative wave of inter-disciplinary partnering for success. The diversity of Congress attendees should make for interesting discussions and positive industry initiatives.

The InterComms project incorporates partnership from the many other supporting organisations, all vital to our objective of delivering informed and incisive comment for our readers. It is your response that dictates our content and enables us to source the most pertinent information from the relevant representative industry organisations that drive change and create new opportunities. This project is designed as co-operative information source for the industry and we welcome your input and comments.

Enjoy the journal and contact with any comments.
