Smartphones, tablets, smart TVs and other IP-connected devices are revolutionizing the way content providers, distributors and advertisers reach viewers. While multi-screen devices promise to increase viewer engagement and social interaction, the strategies for making money from other screens are still evolving. We look into a variety of multi-screen strategies that are currently being used by pay-TV providers.

How a holistic multi-screen user experience boosts revenues for OTT and IPTV video services

To be able to deliver an OTT video service that truly stands out it takes more than great content. Contemporary OTT and IPTV services should master the flow between different devices – and between hundreds of mobile phones, tablets, game consoles, and television sets from a multitude of brands: How can you move content from your iPhone to your Xbox? From your Android tablet to your Panasonic TV? From your Nokia phone to your Samsung TV? Or from your iPad to your LG Blu-ray player? You can do it with a single swipe of your finger! Siemens OTT SWIPE® provides a unified user experience and enables automatic pairing and swiping between any devices of any brand.

Stefan Jenzowsky studied communication science and psychology at the Free University Berlin and the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.

From 1999 to 2006, as VP Strategy and Head of Business Innovation Stefan was responsible for business innovation at Siemens Communications in Munich.

After this, Stefan became Partner at trommsdorff + drüner innovation + marketing consultants, then Managing Director of moreTV Broadcasting GmbH developing innovative TV centric services.

Since October 2010 Stefan has been head of the Media business unit at Siemens Convergence Creators in Vienna, responsible for the media business worldwide.

Stefan has co-authored various books and publications on the future of media and teaches at various universities like the Karlshochschule International University and the European Business School.

While emotion is displayed on the primary screen, additional information is provided and can be used on the second screen. And this concept pays off: it leads to a more active engagement on the second screen, higher click-thru and even purchase rates while the viewing experience on the primary screen remains intact. Non-orchestrated approaches, in which the TV screen was overburdened with consumer interactions (giving the partner no chance to peacefully watch the crime story unwind), have not shown satisfying results. In fact, it is quite obvious: a unified user experience (UX) and a clearly orchestrated multi-screen service enabling a user experience that does not stop at the borders of single devices or brands – that’s the secret to OTT revenue generation!

With Siemens OTT SWIPE® the user experience does not stop at the borders of single devices or brands. And, best of all, OTT SWIPE® UX as a Service is now available for all existing OTT and IPTV-systems.

With Siemens OTT SWIPE® UX as a Service, this feature is now also available as an add-on to your existing video platform. Siemens OTT SWIPE® UX as a Service turns your OTT service into an outstanding experience.
